A Simple Test |
To see if you are experiencing dry-feeling eyes, try this simple test:
| • |
Take a watch or clock with a second hand;
•
Blink twice then stare straight ahead, taking care to start timing immediately after your second blink;
| • |
Avoid blinking for as long as possible;
| • |
Note how many seconds have passed before you begin to feel discomfort (burning, grittiness, or a feeling of dryness forcing you to blink) |
The
time between your last blink and
when your eyes start feeling uncomfortable
is a measure of how tired and dry
your eyes are feeling. If the difference
is five seconds or less, you are experiencing dry-feeling eyes and
you need to rehydrate them. This is because the tear film on your
eye(s) is breaking up and leaving your eye's surface unprotected.
